The International Symposium on Growing Media and Soilless Cultivation
17-21 June 2013 - Rotterdam/Delft area, The Netherlands

Joint Symposia
Working groups under the Commission of Plant Substrates and Soilless Cultivation of the ISHS (Growing Media, Composting for Horticultural applications, Substrate analysis, Hydroponics, Aquaponics) and the International Peat Society (Commission 2) are pleased to announce a joint Symposium from June 17-21 2013. The Symposium is organized under the auspices of the International Society for Horticultural Science in joint cooperation with the International Peat Society. The event will be organised by Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture.
Stakeholders
The symposium aims to bring together researchers and industry in the fields of substrate and compost production, the use of soilless growing systems and recirculating systems, aquaponics and microbiological processes in substrate and compost. The symposium aims to address world wide scientific and technological advances in growing media and growing media systems including water based rooting systems.
Topics
- Worldwide impact of systems for soilless culture on growing media
- Emission reduction of nutrients and plant protection products to the environment and efficient use of water
- Aquaponics: the combination of soilless plant production and aquaculture
- Sustainable production, application and development of (new) growing media
- Advances in composting
- Physical and chemical substrate properties
- Water and nutrient management
- New analytical methods
- Measuring, control and automation
- Micro biological diversity, resilience and disease suppression
- Control of soil-borne pests and diseases
